If These Walls Could Talk

As a national distributor of designer wallcoverings and interior finishes, TRI-KES works hard to keep their customers up to date on the latest trends, industry news, and product releases. Representing over 15 product lines totaling more than seventeen thousand different designs and colors, promoting their products while not losing sight of their own brand presented a unique challenge.

Setting the Tone
Faced with presenting products that ranged from quietly traditional to wildly modern and from boring beige to over the top colorful, the Matchbox team had to create a brand aesthetic that worked equally well across all fronts, but that somehow managed to not disappear into the background. To add to the challenge, TRI-KES’ customers are themselves designers, so the solution had to be upscale and tasteful – well designed in a way that would appeal to their own creative tastes.

The result was a versatile design that used color sparingly, established a recognizable pattern as an accent to identify the brand, and a put a modern twist on classic typography — all working to present information in a clean, readable and easy-to-follow format. Much like a museum presents its artwork, the new TRI-KES brand lets the product have the spotlight, but never loses sight of the importance of its own identity and brand recognition.

Raising the Bar Online
With such a large and diverse number of products to account for, the logical place to bring it all together was online. But simply making their catalog accessible online would have left a huge opportunity on the table. Working with Matchbox, TRI-KES was determined to re-imagine what their website could be, and in doing so to set a new bar in their industry.

TRI-KES takes pride not only in their products but in delivering top-notch customer service and supporting company- and industry-wide environmental initiatives. A re-imagined website provided a clear opportunity to expand these programs. Matchbox collaborated with TRI-KES to develop from scratch a robust product search, filtered by the user’s region and presented in an easy-to-navigate interface. To add to the search capabilities, products are tagged for LEED environmental credit points, giving designers the ability to search only within the very specific product attributes for their job. When they’ve found their products, users can organize their selections into saved project folders, email samples to clients, or request physical swatches. Providing this tool provided not only a boost in perceived customer service to clients, but made a significant positive impact on TRI-KES’ environmental goals.

The full site is supported by an enterprise-level content management system, allowing TRI-KES to manage 100% of the site’s content internally. The site syncs nightly with the company’s internal ERP system to ensure that all products and product information is up to date. An active blog and a host of fun and educational content round out the site’s dynamic content.

The new trikes.com has given TRI-KES clients a powerful new tool to support their businesses, and in doing so, has attracted new clients eager to take advantage of the site’s powerful potential. More than a re-design, the project was a total re-imagining of what a wallcovering industry website could be and has helped TRI-KES establish itself as the premier player in the industry.
